RAMMED EARTH

Rammed Earth

Rammed earth is one of the oldest wall systems on record and one of the most technically demanding to build well. DCI self-performs rammed earth at production scale — from single feature walls to full-envelope residential projects.

Every wall starts with soil analysis. Mix designs are calibrated for the local geology, the wall's structural role, and the finished color the architect specifies. Stabilized rammed earth gives Southwestern projects the durability the climate requires without giving up the material's honest, geological character.

The wall serves as structure, envelope, thermal mass, and finish in a single element. On the right project it removes framing, sheathing, insulation, cladding, and interior finish from the concrete side of the wall — replaced by one built assembly.

Frequently asked

Questions we hear from architects, builders, and owners.

What is rammed earth?
Rammed earth is a wall system built by compacting engineered soil, cement, and aggregate inside formwork. Stabilized rammed earth serves as structure, envelope, thermal mass, and finish in a single element.
Is DCI a rammed earth specialist?
Yes. DCI is one of Nevada's few specialists in structural stabilized rammed earth, self-performing soil analysis, mix design, formwork, and placement in-house.
Is rammed earth suitable for the Las Vegas climate?
Yes. High thermal mass and durability make stabilized rammed earth well suited to the Southwestern desert climate, and it resists fire, pests, and moisture.
Can rammed earth be structural?
Yes. DCI builds load-bearing stabilized rammed earth walls that carry structural loads while serving as the finished interior and exterior surface.
